Established in 1952, Beijing Forestry University is a top-tier public university. It had its first enrollment of international students in 1952 and it was one of the first colleges in China to accept international students. Drawing on its solid foundation in biology and ecology, the University prides itself particularly on its distinctive disciplines such as forestry, landscape architecture, ecology and nature conservation, grass science, and agro-economic management. The university has consistently adhered to the educational philosophy that “Championship in Earth Stewardship, Leadership in Forestry Education”. Over the 70 years since the establishment of BJFU, more than 200,000 domestic and foreign graduates have emerged from the university to become a wide array of senior technicians, specialists and managerial talents as well as high-level forestry and ecology professionals that contribute significantly to China’s thriving ecological progresses and note-worthy social-economic growth. Up to now, the University has cultivated over 5,000 international students of various categories. BFU has launched extensive cooperation in scientific researches and education with over 190 universities/institutes in 30 countries/regions.
北京林业大学是教育部直属、教育部与国家林业和草原局共建的全国重点大学，是国家首批“211工程”重点建设高校和国家“优势学科创新平台”建设项目试点高校，是国家“双一流”建设高校。
历史积淀深厚。学校办学历史可追溯至1902年的京师大学堂农业科林学目。1952年全国高校院系调整，北京农业大学森林系与河北农学院森林系合并，成立北京林学院。1985年更名为北京林业大学。学校以生物学、生态学为基础，以林学、风景园林学、林业工程、草学和农林经济管理为特色，是农、理、工、管、经、文、法、哲、教、艺等多门类协调发展的全国重点大学。学校现有17个学院，65个本科专业及方向，25个硕士学位授权一级学科点，17个专业学位授权点，8个博士学位授权一级学科点，7个博士后流动站。现有国家、省（部）级重点实验室、工程中心及野外站台共84个。与海外30多个国家和地区的190余所高水平院校和科研机构开展科教合作；学校是中国政府奖学金、商务部援外学历项目奖学金、北京市政府奖学金、北京市“一带一路”专项奖学金、亚太森林组织奖学金以及北京市“一带一路”国家人才培养基地项目院校，目前学校独立设置国际学院，成立林业院校首个以“留学生”为主体的非洲地区校友会。目前，学校正以办人民满意的高等教育为宗旨，按照学校第十一次党员代表大会提出的新时代“三步走”战略，全面贯彻党的教育方针，构建“一校两区”新发展格局，为建设扎根中国大地的世界一流林业大学而努力奋斗。
