Founded in 1956, Capital University of Physical Education and Sports (CUPES) is the only sports university affiliated to the Beijing Municipal Government. It is a “high-level and characteristic” university supported by the classified development policy for Beijing municipal universities, ranking third in “China Sports University Rankings” for two consecutive years released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. In December 2021, the Beijing Institute for International Olympic Studies (BIIOS) was officially inaugurated in the university. As a global institute for Olympic research, it will serve as a base for continuous development of Olympic education and a window presenting the achievements of China’s Olympic education to the world.

首都体育学院创建于1956年，是北京市属高校中唯一一所体育大学，也是北京市属高校分类发展政策支持的“高水平特色型大学，在软科“中国体育类大学排名”中，连续两年稳居全国第三位。2021年12月，北京国际奥林匹克学院在首都体育学院揭牌成立，将作为全球性的奥林匹克研究机构，成为持续开展奥林匹克教育的基地和向世界展示我国开展奥林匹克教育成果的窗口。
