Beijing Polytechnic College is located in Shijingshan District, the western part of Beijing. On the southern foot of Yanshan Mountain and adjacent to Yongding River, BPC has a land area of 360 mu (24.012 hectares) with a floorage of more than 200,000 square meters. Under the administration of Beijing municipal government, BPC is the most powerful and influential regular higher vocational college nationwide. First established in 1956 as Beijing Coal Industry School, BPC began to offer higher vocational education programs in 1994. In 2002, BPC was accredited by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education as an exemplary vocational school covered by the key construction project under the support of the central finance. In 2003, BPC was chosen as one of the top eight excellent colleges in the evaluation of talents cultivation work in higher vocational and specialized colleges organized by the Ministry of Education. In 2007, BPC was included in the Construction Plan of National Exemplary Higher Vocational Colleges, therefore becoming one of the 100 key higher vocational colleges under the support of national government. At the same year, BPC was approved to initiate the project named "the Construction Plan of National Exemplary Higher Vocational Colleges”. In 2010, BPC passed the evaluation on the project named "the Construction Plan of National Exemplary Higher Vocational Colleges” with excellent performance. In 2012, BPC was recognized as one of the top 50 colleges in China for the employment of graduates. In 2015, BPC was designated by Beijing Municipality as one of the three pilot higher vocational colleges to offer High-end Technological Capabilities Training program (HTC, also named as 7-Year Training Plan). In 2016, BPC played a leading role in setting up the Urban Construction and Management Vocational Education Group, the first of its kind in Beijing. In 2017, BPC won the first place in the numbers of prizes awarded in Teachers’ Information-based Classroom Teaching Competition. BPC also topped the list in the numbers of prizes received in skills competition of the national vocational students. In 2018, BPC entered into Top 50 Vocational and Technical Colleges in Asia Pacific regions and obtained the enrollment qualification of international students. In 2019, BPC has been listed as the construction unit of Beijing Characteristic High-level Vocational College, and in 2019, BPC has selected as the construction unit of China High-level Vocational College with Chinese characteristics. In 2021, BPC and Center for Language Education Cooperation have jointly undertaken the Educational Practice and Research Center for “Chinese +TVET”.

北京工业职业技术学院是一所以工科专业为主、独立设置的公办普通高等职业学院。学校前身为创建于1956年的北京煤炭工业学校,1994年开始举办高等职业教育,1999年正式改制为高等职业技术学院。2000年被教育部确定为全国首批示范性职业技术学院建设单位。2002年被财政部、教育部确定为中央财政重点支持建设的示范性职业院校。2003年在全国首批高职高专院校人才培养工作水平评估中,被教育部确定为全国首批八所优秀院校之一。2002年和2006年两次被评为“北京市职业教育先进单位”。2007年入选“国家示范性高等职业院校建设计划”,成为“十一五”期间国家重点支持建设的100所“国家级示范高职院校”之一,并于2010年以优秀等级通过教育部、财政部组织的“国家示范性高等职业院校项目建设”验收。2012年被评为“全国就业五十强高校”。2015年成为首批试点北京高端技术技能人才贯通培养项目的三所高职院校之一。2016年学校被教育部确定为中国有色金属行业职业教育“走出去”首批试点项目学校。2016年学校牵头成立了北京首个城市建设与管理职教集团。2017年学校入选教育部国家现代学徒制试点单位。2017年学校被确定为北京市“一带一路”国家人才培养基地,与清华、北大等26所院校一起入选,是入选该项目3所职业院校之一。2018年荣获亚太职业院校影响力50强。同年8月,学校正式获批国际学生招收培养资质。2019年学校成为北京市特色高水平职业院校建设单位,2019年成功入选中国特色高水平高职学校建设单位。2021年学校与教育部中外语言交流合作中心合作共建“中文+职业技能”教育实践与研究基地。
