This course explores the splendid achievements of Song dynasty cultural and theatrical practices in the political, diplomatic, commercial, financial, transportation, ideological, and artistic realms. Specifically, it delves into the dramatic culture of the “Washegoulan” performances within the entertainment industry of the Song Dynasty. It traces the development of dramas from the diverse performances in the Han Dynasty to the refined dramas of the Tang Dynasty, further evolving into the Song Dynasty's variety shows and Southern dramas. In-depth analysis is conducted on the structural features of Great Song dramas, including script construction, musical rhythm, singing, recitation, and performance styles. The course extensively elaborates on three representative Southern operas: "ZhangXieZhuangYuan," "Huanmenzidi Cuolishen," and "XiaoSunTu."
