The pottery clay used in Jianshui pottery is purple, hence named as "Purple Pottery". It is known as one of China's four famous potteries, often decorated with traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting, featuring a simple, elegant style and full of cultural atmosphere. The firing technique began in the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, and in 2008, it was selected into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection list.
