Confucius, pinyin as Kong Zi, whose royal surname was Zi, family name was Kong, first name was Qiu and courtesy name was Zhongni, was born in Zouyi, State of Lu during the Spring and Autumn Period. He was a great thinker, statesman, and educator in ancient China and also called a master of Chinese culture and “the Sage Master of great accomplishment”. This course introduces the origin of Confucius’ surname, noble origin, his travel through the countries, and the portrait of Confucius painted by later generations so as to help students to deeply understand the historical status and cultural influence of Confucius in China, and enhance their interest and understanding in the study of traditional Chinese culture, promoting cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and foreign countries.
