In ancient times, words out of tune were called “poems”, which can be seen as modern lyrics. Words in tune were called “ballads”, which can be considered as modern songs. Today poems and ballads are collectively named “poetry”, which includes music itself. Though poems and ballads are as intimate as twin brothers, they also boast distinctive features. This course, by means of music, explore ancient Chinese poetry, and appreciate modern music through poetry.
