An old European saying says, “Mineral crystal is carefully designed by God with a ruler, and rock was conveniently made by God with hand.” As one of the stone kinds for appreciation, mineral crystal pleases people with its beauty represented by delicate outline, dazzling luster and beautiful color. The people are absorbed in its scientific connotation and will never stop chasing after its value. The uniqueness of mineral crystal lies in its outline and color. In terms of outline, mineral crystal has the “carefully-designed” geometry which has never been found on other kinds of stone, with multiple forms presented. Different minerals usually have different forms, and one mineral may have different forms in different environments where they are formed. In terms of color, some minerals have multiple colors, and some may have only one. Minerals of different colors do not share the same color-forming mechanism. A piece of rock consists of the minerals with different forms and colors. In this course, we will get knowledge of commonly-seen minerals with various forms and colors, some looking like flower, some like needle, some like ball and some like geometric pattern. We will understand their basic uses. They can be divided into metal minerals and non-metal ones. In addition, we will get to know three basic kinds of rock and the famous mountains constituted by them, for example, Huangshan Mountain which was praise as the first miraculous mountain in the world, the mountains in Guilin which are surrounded by rivers and Zhangjiajie Scenic Area, famous as World Geopark.
