This course presents four folktales to demonstrate the typical Chinese traditional culture: The Tale of the White Snake (《白蛇传》), Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingytai (《梁山伯与祝英台》） The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl (《牛郎与织女》) and Lady Meng Jiangnu（《孟姜女》）. Oral story-telling, picture and video display are used during the class to illustrate the storylines, characters, philosophic merits, cultural influence and heritage of the four folktales. This course will boost not only the spoken Chinese proficiency and Chinese language learning skills of the attendees but also their multicultural awareness and transnational communication competency. In this way, this course will promote the learning of Chinese culture and its interaction with global cultures.
