Shanxi folk houses present different types according to geographical distribution. This class mainly teaches the folk houses in Western Shanxi and Southeast Shanxi. Western Shanxi is located in most of the Luliang mountains in the east of the Shanxi-Shaanxi Grand Canyon. It is an important part of the hilly and gully area of the Loess Plateau in Northwest China. The spatial factors of folk houses are special. Everything can be described by "courtyard", which has become the representative of the whole building complex. Due to the different identity and status of house owners, the shape of courtyard also presents different characteristics. Southeast Shanxi has a dangerous terrain, a long history and profound cultural accumulation. The residential buildings here are not only well preserved, but also have a relatively complete settlement pattern, which has certain historical, scientific and artistic value. Some of the residential buildings in Southeast Shanxi have been rated as national cultural relics protection units, and some have been rated as famous historical and cultural towns and villages in China. Therefore, Southeast Shanxi has become one of the areas with the richest preservation of traditional folk houses in Shanxi Province.
