1The Ancient Cultural Street, located in the Nankai District of Tianjin, is one of the top ten attractions in Tianjin. Nearly 100 stores in the street have always adhered to the principle of "Chinese flavor, Tianjin flavor, cultural flavor and ancient flavor". There are many time-honored stores selling a wide variety of folk handicrafts. There are numerous local snacks, including Goubuli baozi (steamed buns with filling), Erduoyan Zhagao (fried rice cakes), pancakes rolled with crisp fritters, and mahua (fried dough twist). Tourist attractions include the Tianhou Palace (a Mazu temple), and the stores of Wei Kites and Niren Zhang Painted Sculptures. Yangliuqing New Year pictures, a kind of wood-block prints, originated in Yangliuqing Town in Tianjin. They adopt the method of xylograph overprinting combined with hand-painted color. The brightly-colored pictures have their artistic value, and they are valuable for historical research. Yangliuqing New Year painting is not only one of the famous folk woodcut paintings in China, but also an international intangible cultural heritage. The Five Great Avenues (Wu Da Dao in Chinese), located in the downtown area of Tianjin, is a block with five parallel streets from east to west, namely Chongqing Avenue (Chong Qing Dao), Machang Avenue (Ma Chang Dao), Dali Avenue (Da Li Dao), Munan Avenue (Mu Nan Dao) and Chengdu Avenue (Cheng Du Dao). There are more than 2,000 garden-style houses with different architectural styles built in the 1920s and 1930s in this region, covering an area of over 1,000,000 square meters. It is the most complete western-style building complex in Tianjin and even in China, and is also known as the World Building Exposition.
