Tianjin Normal University (TNU) is the inheritor of Tianjin's hundred-year normal education and the birthplace of Tianjin's basic education culture, the only normal university focusing on high-quality teachers’ fundamental education in Tianjin. The university was founded in 1958. In 2021, it is included in the ranks of the National Education Power Promotion Project of high-quality normal universities. TNU maintains open to the world and has extensive international exchanges and cooperation. TNU has actively connected with the construction of the "Belt and Road", actively served the major needs of "Chinese culture goes out", hold 5 Confucius Institutes and 1 independent Confucius Classroom, undertook the first Confucius Institute in Africa - the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, and become a global model Confucius Institute. The Confucius Institute sponsored by TNU has been awarded for 3 times of "Advanced Confucius Institute Organizer ", 11 times of "Global Advanced Confucius Institute", and the "Confucius Institute Foundation Award". It has established cooperative ties with 190 universities, institutes and regional governments from 35 countries and regions. The number of volunteer Chinese teachers sent to 49 countries reached 1,020. It has cooperated with Russia, Japan, and South Korea to hold 4 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects, and was awarded the first batch of “Demonstration Bases for Studying in China”. The scale of international student training ranks among the best in Tianjin. The number of visiting teachers who have gone abroad to participate in international conferences and research has exceeded 1,000.
