The campus of Yunnan Vocational College of Sports is situated in the DianChi national tourist resort, Kunming,which is known as the Spring City. Yunnan Vocational College of Sports was established in 1964, originally under the name “Yunnan Youth Physical Education School”. The college was renamed “Yunnan Physical Education School” in 1978. The name of Yunnan Vocational College of Sports was adopted in 2004 with the approval of Yunnan Provincial People's Government. It currently covers an area of two hundred and thirteen thousand square meters with 90,000 square meters of floor space.

云南体育运动职业技术学院地处春城昆明滇池之滨国家旅游度假区，占地320亩，校舍建筑面积9万多平方米。学院前身为创建于1964年的云南省青少年体育学校，1978年组建为云南省体育运动学校，2004年经云南省人民政府批准组建为云南体育运动职业技术学院。学院现有全日制在校生7523人，教职工227人，具有高级职称教师49人，硕士研究生以上教职工118人，拥有云南省兴滇人才、省政府特殊津贴专家、省政府突出贡献专业技术人员、云南省“万人计划”教学名师、云南省“万人计划”文化名家、云南省教学名师等一大批优秀教师。
