Located in Yangling, Shaanxi Province, the birthplace of Chinese agricultural civilization and today’s national demonstration area of agricultural high-tech industry, Northwest A&F University is a key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education and a member of previous national "Project 985" and "Project 211". It is one of the first universities listed in the National "World-Class University and First-class Discipline" Project. The University originated from National Northwest Junior College of Agriculture and Forestry which was founded in 1934, and other research and educational institutes that were later founded in Yangling. At present, the university has 32,000 students and more than 4,500 faculty members. It has 27 colleges (departments, institutes) and graduate schools of agriculture, forestry, animal science, plant protection and economic management and etc. NWAFU now has developed into the only education institution in China that is completely equipped with disciplines of agriculture, forestry, and water science. Adhering to the principle of openness and inclusiveness, the university has actively expanded international cooperation and exchanges in science, technology and education by strengthening concrete cooperation with world-class universities and academic institutions, forming a new pattern of all-round, multi-level and multi-channel international cooperation and exchange. NWAFU has established cooperation relationships with more than 152 famous universities or research institutions in 35 countries. The university is qualified to receive Chinese government scholarships with 330 international students on campus. NWAFU has actively participated in the establishment of the "Belt and Road" initiative, and has gradually become a highland for China to carry out international agricultural exchanges and cooperation and serve the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt.
西北农林科技大学地处中华农耕文明发祥地、国家级农业高新技术产业示范区——陕西杨凌，是教育部直属、国家原“985工程”和“211工程”重点建设高校，首批入选国家“世界一流大学和一流学科”建设高校。
学校前身是创建于1934年的国立西北农林专科学校，为西北地区最早的高等农林教育学府。目前，学校在校生3.2万人，教职工4500余人。设有农学、林学、动物科学、植物保护、经济管理等27个学院（部、所）和研究生院，现已发展为全国农林水学科最为齐备的高等农业院校。
学校坚持开放办学，通过加强与世界一流大学和学术机构的实质性合作，积极拓展国际科技教育合作与交流，形成了全方位、多层次、多渠道的国际合作交流新格局。先后与全球35个国家152余所知名大学或科研机构建立校际合作关系。学校具有接收中国政府奖学金来华留学生资格，留学生约330人。学校积极参与“一带一路”建设，已逐步成为我国开展农业国际交流合作和服务丝绸之路经济带建设的高地。
