Xi'an University of Science and Technology (XUST) started to operate independently after separating from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1958. There are 7 postdoctoral research stations, 7 first-level doctoral programs, 26 first-level master's programs, 12 master's degree authorization programs and 60 undergraduate majors in XUST, which is a provincial key university featuring in geology, mining, safety, energy and related disciplines.

西安科技大学办学历史可溯源至1895年北洋大学工学院采矿冶金科，1958年从西安交通大学分离出来后开始独立办学。学校现有7个博士后科研流动站，7个一级学科博士点， 26个一级学科硕士点，12个硕士专业学位授权点，60个本科专业，形成了以地矿、安全、能源及其相关学科为特色的省级重点大学。
