The Tianjin Municipal Education Commission is a government organization. Its duty is to implement the educational policies of the Party and the State, formulate local laws and regulations as well as strategies and plans concerning education in Tianjin, propose the policies related to the reform of the education system, and work on related organization and implementation. It is also responsible for the management of exchanges and cooperation in education with other countries, including study in China, cooperatively-run schools and international Chinese education. In 2012, the Commission, together with the University of Strathclyde and Scotland's National Centre for Languages, established the Confucius Institute for Scotland's Schools, with 44 Confucius Classrooms. In 2017, the Confucius Institute was awarded the title of Model Confucius Institute. In 2019, the Commission was honored as an Outstanding Confucius Institute Chinese Partner.
