China is abundant in natural resources and produces with beautiful landscape. A large number of mineral resources worth development and utilization are buried underground, including gems, gold mines and other resources important to national economy such as iron and oil. The development and utilization of mineral resources play a great and irreplaceable role in the development and progress of human society and civilization. It can be said that mineral resources serve as a corner stone of human life. In this course, mineral deposits and their classification will be introduced first, and the forming processes of several mines which many students may be interested in, such as gold, diamond and coal, will be the next, so that students can master the basic concepts on mineral deposits. After knowing the forming processes of these mines, we should know how to discover and develop these mines. Afterwards, the students will be exposed to the basic methods for discovering mineral resources and two mining methods——open-pit mining and underground mining.
