Chinese history is 5,000 years long with the culture being extensive and profound. An essential part of this history is the culture of clothing. This course focuses on the traditional Chinese costume, traces the origin of the traditional Chinese costume, and introduces the history of the traditional Chinese costume and the design concept of “unity of heaven and man”, as well as the oriental virtues and their unique cultural implications reflected in the body, large sleeves, neckline and accessories of the traditional Chinese costume. From the formation of the color concept of the Chinese ancestors, this course describes the relationship between the colors of the traditional Chinese costume and the five elements and the five colors. The correlation is to be analyzed and demonstrated between the three basic forms of Chinese costume, namely, the upper garment and lower garment system, the one-piece garment system, and the robe and shirt system, and the functions, wearing methods, and flat and straight cutting of the costumes, so that students can further understand the compatibility and symbolic meaning embodied in the structure of Chinese costume. Finally, through the demonstration of Chinese costume wearing and makeup styling, students can feel the charm of traditional Chinese costume culture in several respects, such as wearing, matching, and compatibility.
