This course focuses on the protective renewal of ancient villages and towns in Jiangnan, comprehensively exploring the cultural heritage protection of these water-bound communities. The curriculum integrates advanced domestic and international concepts and practical operations for the preservation of ancient villages and towns, emphasizing hierarchical protection, the overall preservation of historical environments and cultural connotations, as well as the prominence of local characteristics. Using Shaxi Ancient Town as a case study, the course delves into strategies for protection and revitalization. This course aims to pass on the profound culture of Jiangnan's ancient villages and towns, achieving a harmony between physical space and cultural significance, allowing the memories of these villages and towns to be passed down and preserving the nostalgic sentiment they evoke. Through this course, students will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the unique charm of Jiangnan's watery ancient villages and towns, coming together to contribute to their protection and sustainable development.
