This course focuses on the long history and unique charm of Suzhou gardens. Starting from its origins in the Spring and Autumn Period, it showcases the developmental changes throughout the Qin, Han, and Northern and Southern Dynasties, until its prosperity during the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. The course delves deeply into the diversity and artistry of Suzhou gardens during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, while also paying attention to how contemporary Suzhou gardens cleverly integrate modern elements while preserving traditions. Through the interpretation of classic works such as "Yuan Ye" and the appreciation of examples like the Tuisi Garden and the Ou Garden, one can more intuitively feel the ingenuity and beauty of Suzhou gardens. This is not only a course about traditional Chinese garden art, but also a fascinating journey into the depths of Jiangnan culture.
