Simplified Tai Chi Chuan (Eight Techniques, Five Steps) is the latest set of entry-level Tai Chi routines introduced by the General Administration of Sport of China. It features a simple structure, reasonable quantity, rich content, and is considered an ideal entry-level Tai Chi form. The eight techniques refer to the eight fundamental movements: ward-off, rollback, press, push, grab, split, elbow strike, and shoulder strike. The five steps refer to: go forward, retreat, look left, gaze right, and central equilibrium. When combined, the eight techniques and five steps form the thirteen postures of Tai Chi. It has been officially recognized as an exhibition event at the National Games in China.

简化太极拳(八法五步)是中国国家体育总局最新推出结构简单、数量合理、内容丰富、较为理想的太极拳入门套路。八法是指:掤、捋、挤、按、採、挒、肘、靠八个基本招式;五步是指:前进、后退、左顾、右盼和中定。八法五步合起来就是太极十三式,现已被认定中国全国运动会展演项目。
