In this class, students receive the introduction of five types of Chinese calligraphy: seal, li, regular, line and running style. By demonstrating the line of Du Fu’s poem—“月是故乡明” in five types of writing, the characteristics, origins and developing of the five styles are introduced to learners, and at the same time, students also get familiar with the history and development of calligraphy, which contributes to their knowledge of the art of calligraphy. This class also introduces different breadths of calligraphy and the according features, which strengthens students’ understanding of the charm of calligraphy.
