This course first introduces the historical origin of Manchu surnames, from the totemic naming that originally indicated the appellation of blood clan, the Manchu ancestral surnames appearing in the historical books of Bohai, Liao, Jin and Ming dynasties, and the Manchu surnames in the Eight Banners of Manchu Clan Spectrum. Secondly, it introduces the main types of Manchu surnames, including following the ancient family name of Jin dynasty, taking the family name with homophony, taking the family name with the name of father and ancestor, and seeking the family name with similar Chinese characters. Finally, this course also selected the Manchu Shi surname (Siktrihara) as a case to introduce the genealogical culture and ancestor worship culture of this surname in Jilin area.
