This course, in addition to listing common tools, medium and material in Chinese paintings, is designed to give a brief introduction to vigorous strokes, features of lines, and genres in the light of treating“Lines as flying and moving Framework”, one of the standards for appreciating ancient Chinese painting. By making comparison of paintings by Gu Kaizi, Wu Daozi and Li Gonglin in different periods and of different styles, it also demonstrates to overseas learners the unique charm conveyed through lines in Chinese painting, offers them an opportunity to learn the basics about Baimiao and some simple techniques, so that they can experience first-hand the charming lines in Chinese painting, have a taste of this culture, and therefore improve their sensitivity to Chinese art. It also offers learners a special experience in understanding how traditional Chinese aestheticism reflects Chinese culture, its observations of space, structure and relation in the objective world, as well as the internalization of these observations.
