Jilin Provincial Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine, located on the campus of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine, is a Chinese medicine comprehensive exhibition hall organized by the university. Its predecessor was the Medical History Exhibition Hall built in 1963 and the Medicine Specimen Room built in 1959. In 2009, it was integrated into Changchun University of Chinese Medicine Museum, and in December 2011, it was formally named as Jilin Provincial Museum of Chinese Medicine with the approval of the Provincial Department of Culture. In September 2013, the new hall of Jilin Provincial Museum of Chinese Medicine was formally completed and opened. The museum covers an area of 12,000 square meters, with a building area of 7,250 square meters and a display area of 3,860 square meters. It has a school history hall and six showrooms, namely, the Northern Medicine Showroom, the Animal Medicine Showroom, the Ginseng Showroom, the Famous Chinese Medicine Enterprises of Jilin Province Showroom, the General History of Chinese Medicine Showroom and the Local Medicine Characteristics Showroom. Also it collects and displays 3,381 Chinese medicine cultural relics (including imitations) and nearly 10,000 Chinese medicine specimens. It mainly displays the historical figures, anecdotes, deeds, data, documents, pictures and models about the culture of Chinese medicine, the unique Chinese medicine resources of the Northern Medicine Base of Changbai Mountain, as well as the medicine culture of the ethnic minorities of Northeast China, such as Manchu, Mongolian, and Chinese Korean, which has regional characteristics. Jilin Provincial Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine is now a provincial popular science base recognized by the Science and Technology Department of Jilin Province, the Jilin Provincial Association for Science and Technology named the fourth batch of popular science education base, and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) named the National Popular Science Education Base. It is a member of the Chinese Museum Association and a front with distinctive features, complete systems, rich collections and outstanding educational functions, which has become a cultural venue and external brand with professional characteristics of the university. Moreover, the museum plays an active role in conducting professional teaching for students, popularizing the knowledge of Chinese medicine for the general public, and carrying forward the traditional culture of our country.
