"Xianju's knife-craved skeleteless lanterns" are among the first batch of national intangible cultural heritages. The lanterns' craft originated from the Tang Dynasty. The patterns on the surface of each lantern is chiseled and stabbed out with knives and needles, and the whole body of each lantern is made by folding and pasting paper pieces of different sizes and shapes, with no skeleton used. This kind of lanterns is long known as the "Top-level Chinese Lanterns". In this course, we will visit the ancient Fantan town in Xianju County to learn more about the unique intangible heritage culture of Taizhou through such activities as explanation, production and experiencing of "Xianju's knife-craved skeleteless lanterns".
