This course aims to expose the learners to “Granary of the World”- Dali Fengtu Charitable Granary initiated by Yan Jingming, a high-ranking official in Qing Dynasty and authorized as “Granary of the World” by Empress Dowager Cixi. Besides, it will offer them an opportunity to experience the architectural features and arts, to interpret the important roles of smart-designed drainage walls and “catwalks”, and to appreciate catering utensils, storage culture, food stamps and grain objects in China. Meanwhile, it will provide the learners a chance to study Chinese characters, poems and legends associated with Fengtu Charitable Granary. Therefore, this course is to reach a three-fold goal that learners may appreciate the landscape, experience Chinese architectural culture and polish Chinese language with fun as well.
