Five-colored Under Glaze made in Liling of Hunan province, China is a local traditional ceramic decorative art. Its firing technique was approved by the State Council to be listed as one of the second batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008. The Five-colored Under Glaze is finally made with being baked in the high-temperature kiln after painting and glazing. The fired paintings, covered by a thin and transparent layer of glaze, appear glittering and translucent. With the repeated research and manufacture by artists and craftsmen, using a variety of under-glaze pigments such as the home-made grass green, sea blue, brilliant black, ochre and agate red, by adopting the method of “sketch filling”, a traditional Chinese painting method, and the method of “three firing”, a refreshing Five-colored Under Glaze is produced. The three typical characteristics of Five-colored Under Glaze are as follows. Firstly, it is non-toxic, acid-resistant, alkali-resistant, wear-resistant and never fades. Secondly, it is smooth and bright, crystal and moist, elegant and bright, with a sense of beauty, which brings people much artistic pleasure.
