Through the previous lessons, we have mastered the basic knowledge related to Hunan embroidery and have a general understanding of the culture of Hunan embroidery. We should not only know the knowledge, but also learn to appreciate and analyze a piece of Hunan embroidery, which is the main content of lesson 5. The course starts with the interview video of master Jiang Zaihong, the inheritor of Hunan embroidery intangible heritage, and mainly tells his views on the importance of Hunan embroidery needlework and displays many exquisite Hunan embroidery works. Through this course, we hope that learners can master the following methods: understand the meaning of expressed by the work through observing and analyzing the embroidery content; master the skill level of the embroiderer or painter and the whole work by analyzing the needlework used in embroidery and the composition design of the work; at last, on the basis of the first two steps, we need to go deep into the work and analyze its connotation, that is to understand the implication behind it. This part often contains cultural elements, which is difficult. But after having command of this method, and learners can appreciate a piece of Hunan embroidery very well. In the course, we listed two works as examples to explain. The first one is the award-winning masterpiece "Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix". We comprehensively analyzed this work from the aspects of history, background story, picture details, needlework skills, mounting, etc., and supplemented the cultural background of its main content - phoenix, so that learners can have a deeper understanding of the idiom and story of "Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix". The second is Yueyang Tower, which is collected in the Hunan Hall of the Great Hall of the People. There is high artistic value in the work. Because it has a strong connection with the local regional culture of Hunan, we have also supplemented a lot of related historical and cultural knowledge and poetry content to expand the significance of the work on the basis of analyzing its creation background, content of appearance, composition design, work parameters and other basic contents. Finally, we used the "World’s Craftsmanship" video as the end of courses for the Hunan embroidery. The inheritance and development of any handicraft skills are worthy of respect and commemoration.
