Linyi is the hometown of Wang Xizhi, the "calligraphic prodigy", who was born in Linyi, which was called as Langya in ancient times, in 303 A.D. He created a new kind of chirography that promoted the running hand and grass writing to develop to a new level. His running hand works are "light like a cloud, vigorous like a startled dragon", and his Lan Ting Preface is greatly respected and welcomed by people. Due to his outstanding achievements and contributions in the field of calligraphy, he is honored as the "calligraphic prodigy" by descendants. The relic left by him, Wang Xizhi's former residence is still maintained in Linyi. The calligraphic prodigy culture in Linyi creates its own cultural brand, helps the city establish its image, and creates the urban cultural brand of "calligraphic prodigy's hometown" and "the famous calligraphic city of China" for Linyi.
