This episode introduces the last three solar terms of autumn: Qiu Fen, Han Lu , and Shuang Jiang. On the day of Qiu Fen, day and night are divided equally, and half of autumn has already passed. From when Qiu Fen started, the days in the northern hemisphere have gotten shorter and the nights longer. Qiu Fen has three Wuhou: “The Thunder Dies Down”, “The Insects Prepare for Winter” and “The Water Dries Up”.These describe when storms die down and the weather becomes cool, when the insects feel the progression of autumn and begin to prepare for winter, and when lakes and rivers start drying up. Han Lu has three Wuhou:“The Swan Guest”, “The Birds Dig for Clams”, and “The Yellow Chrysanthemum”. As the weather changes, on the hillsides, autumn chrysanthemums are in full bloom, and birds migrate south to to find warmth. Shuang Jiang has three Wuhou: “The Yellow leaves Falls”, “The Jackals Sacrifice”,and “The Bugs Prepare for Hibernation”. During this solar term, jackals display their captured prey similar to how people make offerings to a higher power before eating it. Leaves on the ground turn yellow and fall, and insects enter hibernation.
