It has been an important category in Chinese painting since ancient times.The ancient Elle Painting mostly uses the technique of line drawing, which includes iron line drawing, archaic silk line drawing and running clouds and flowing water line drawing, etc., commonly known as the eighteen methods of line drawing (Shi Ba Miao). Nowadays, we have combined together the Gongbi (fine brush painting) technique and Xieyi (freehand painting) technique.Further more, there appear Xiao Xieyi and Da Xieyi and various ways of categorization.
