Baduanjin is an ancient Chinese Qigong exercise, which was formed in Song Dynasty and consists of eight sets of body movements, including body movements and breath conditioning. Baduanjin is the most widely spread in ancient Chinese guidance. On June 28, 1982, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and the then National Sports Commission issued a notice, taking Baduanjin and other traditional Chinese fitness methods as one of the contents of "Health Physical Education Class" promoted in medical universities. In 2003, the State Sports General Administration of China promoted the rearranged Baduanjin and other fitness methods as the content of "Health Qigong" to the whole country.

八段锦是一种中国古代气功功法,形成于宋代,由八种肢体动作组成,内容包括肢体运动和气息调理。八段锦是在中国古老的导引术中流传最广。1982年6月28日,中国卫部、教育部和当时的国家体育委员会发出通知,把八段锦等中国传统健身法作为在医学类大学中推广的“保健体育课”的内容之一。2003年,中国国家体育总局把重新编排的八段锦等健身法作为“健身气功”的内容向全国推广。
