This course, in addition to listing common tools, medium and material in Chinese paintings, is designed to give a brief review of the bird-and-flower painting in traditional Chinese painting, including its history, style and schools, and pictorial features. This course also aims to offer overseas learners an opportunity to explore deeper on one hand the respect of nature and understanding of life on the part of Chinese bird-and-flower painters, and on the other how different geographical conditions and the rise and fall of dynasties influence art and culture, so as to see culture and humanity of a certain period from the perspective of art history. In the course learners can also learn and put into practice some basic pictorial techniques used in painting vegetable and fruit, a learning-by-doing opportunity to experience the charm of Chinese painting, internalize and improve their aesthetic sensitivity.
