Chinese calligraphy is an ancient art of writing Chinese characters, evolving from the oracle bone script, stone drum script, and jinwen (bell and tripod script) to the large seal script, small seal script, and official script, to the cursive script, regular script, and running script, which were established in the Eastern Han, Wei, and Jin Dynasties, calligraphy has always exuded an artistic charm. Chinese calligraphy is a unique art of expression for the Han people, and has been described as a poem without words, a dance without lines, a painting without pictures, and a music without sound. Chinese characters are an important element in Chinese calligraphy because Chinese calligraphy was created and developed within Chinese culture, and Chinese characters are one of the basic elements of Chinese culture. The reliance on Chinese characters is the main mark of Chinese calligraphy that distinguishes it from other kinds of calligraphy.
