Guizhou is a multi-ethnic province, and ethnic minorities are often known for their ability to sing and dance. Almost all ethnic groups have their own traditional dance forms, such as the Miao's historic Lusheng dance and drum dance, the Buyi's cloth weaving dance and harvest dance based on ethnic customs, and the Tujia's flower drums performed on festive occasions. Ethnic minority people express their cultural rituals, historical heritage and attitudes towards life through their bodies and music. This course aims to lead overseas students to appreciate the songs and dances of minority peoples in Guizhou, and to appreciate the simplicity and naturalness of minority peoples and their boldness and spontaneity.
