The course “Appreciation of Chinese Opera” will introduce traditional Chinese opera culture, aiming to improve students’ artistic appreciation ability. The course is divided into four parts: “Introduction to Chinese Opera” introduces the concept of Chinese opera, the difference between Chinese opera and drama, and the development of Chinese opera. “The Quintessence of Peking Opera” introduces the formation and the various roles of Peking Opera, and an appreciation of the excerpts from Farewell My Concubine(a classic Peking Opera) as well. “Local Opera Types” and “Excerpts Appreciation” introduce the rich and colorful local operas, such as Henan Opera, Yueju Opera, Huangmei Opera, Qinqiang Opera, Pingju Opera and Lvju Opera, etc., as well as the appreciation of classic selections.
