Taekwondo, (태권도) also spelled Taekwon-do or Tae Kwon Do. It is a martial arts sport that uses hands and feet to fight and focuses on spiritual cultivation. It was named by general Choi Hong hee of South Korea in 1955. Taekwondo originated from ancient Chinese martial arts, spread in Japan and carried forward on the Korean Peninsula. It is a martial arts sport combining the strengths of Contemporary East Asian martial arts. Taekwondo became the official event of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. At the same time, it is also the martial arts event with the largest number of practitioners in the world. It is known as "the first fighting sport in the world". Taekwondo is divided into two schools, namely World Taekwondo (WT) in Korea and International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) in Korea. People are deeply impressed by the distinctive characteristics of Taekwondo practitioners who wear white Taoist clothes, pay attention to etiquette, use both fists and feet, cheer with their voice, test their skills by breaking hard objects and so on. The training content of Taekwondo mainly includes basic skills, poomsae, competitive confrontation, stunt, breaking, taekwondo dance, nunchaku, etc. According to the difficulty of training, the training content is also divided into 19 levels of 10 levels and 9 sections, so as to facilitate practitioners to carry out reasonable and scientific training. From the perspective of fitness, adhering to taekwondo practice can improve physical qualities such as muscle strength, speed, endurance, agility, coordination and balance. Taekwondo is beneficial to the human body's sports system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system and central nervous system. For adults, Taekwondo has the functions of strengthening the body, slimming and shaping, self-defense, decompression and so on; For women, it is helpful for women to maintain a symmetrical figure and obtain better temperament and self-confidence; For teenagers and children, Taekwondo has four functions of "fitness, enlightenment, heart education and courtesy". In particular, Taekwondo has the advantages of promoting the height growth of teenagers and children, knowing etiquette, improving self-confidence and self-defense ability, which has been recognized by the majority of parents.

跆拳道是一项利用手和脚进行格斗并且注重精神修炼的武术运动,于1955年由韩国的崔泓熙将军命名。跆拳道源自中国古代武术、流传于日本、发扬于朝鲜半岛,是一项结合当代东亚武技之长的武道运动。2000年悉尼奥运会跆拳道成为奥运会正式比赛项目,同时它还是全球练习者最多的武术项目,素有“世界第一搏击运动”之美称。

跆拳道分为两大流派,即韩国的世界跆拳道(WT)与韩鲜的国际跆拳道联盟(ITF)。跆拳道练习者身着白色道服、注重礼节、拳脚并用、发声助威、通过击破坚硬物体检验功力等等鲜明特点给人们留下了深刻的印象。跆拳道的训练内容主要包括基本技术、品势、竞技对抗、特技、击破、跆舞、双节棍等。根据训练的难易程度还将训练内容细分为10级与9段共19个级别,以便于练习者进行合理科学的训练。

从健身视角来看,坚持跆拳道练习能提升肌肉力量、速度、耐力、灵敏、协调性与平衡能力等身体素质。跆拳道运动对人体的运动系统、呼吸系统、心血管系统、中枢神经系统等都很有益处。跆拳道运功对于成人,具有强身健体、瘦身塑形、防身自卫、减压等功能;对于女性,有利于女性保持匀称的身材、获得更好的气质与自信;对于青少年儿童,跆拳道有“健身、启智、育心、知礼”四大功能,尤其是跆拳道促进青少年儿童身高增长、知礼懂礼、提升自信与防身能力等好处,受到了广大家长的认可。
