Yuelu Academy, one of the four famous academies in China, is located at the foot of the beautiful Yuelu Mountain on the West Bank of the Xiang River in Changsha City, Hunan Province and is in the campus of Hunan University. It was founded in 976 A.D. in the Northern Song Dynasty and the educational idea remained unchanged throughout the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was restructured into Hunan Higher School in 1903 and officially named as Hunan University in 1926. Now Yuelu Academy as a college of Hunan University consists of history department, philosophy department, and archaeology department. Through this course, the teacher will present the main buildings of Yuelu Academy to the students such as Hexi platform, main gate, lecture hall, imperial library, and Confucian temple, so that the students can have a preliminary understanding of the historical and cultural traditions, and modern and contemporary development of Yuelu Academy.
