Chinese calligraphy is an artistic form of Chinese characters. According to the characteristics and meaning of characters, it is written with its style, technique, and art of composition, making it an artistic work full of beauty. It is even called as “poetry without a word, dance without a shape, painting without a figure, music without a sound”. This course briefly introduces the definition of calligraphy, how to appreciate Chinese calligraphy, and how to copy or learn 5 styles of calligraphy such as seal character, official script, regular script, running script and cursive script. Combined with the traditional customs of writing couplets of spring festival, and pasting the character “blessing” on the door or wall during the Spring Festival, the unique calligraphy art and profound cultural connotation are presented to the students.
