Songyang Academy is an ancient Chinese institution of higher learning. It is located at the foot of the Songshan peak 3 kilometers north of Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. Founded in the eighth year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (484 AD), it was originally named Songyang Temple as a Buddhist temple. In the second year of Song Jinghu (1035 AD), when the Taishi Academy was rebuilt, it was named Songyang Academy, and the dean was in charge of the affairs of the Academy. Songyang Academy is one of the birthplaces of Cheng-Zhu Neo-Confucianism in the Song Dynasty. Its architectural style is a "specimen" for the study of ancient Chinese academies, education systems and Confucian culture.
