1This lecture introduces paper cutting in China, which is a form of traditional Chinese folk art decorating people’s life. You may use scissors or a carving knife to cut beautiful patterns out on papers. Containing rich information of historical culture, paper cutting represents people’s dream and interests for life. By learning skills and techniques of paper cutting, students may better understand the beauty of Chinese folk-custom. In this lecture, students will learn to cut out the pattern of “baby born in the lotus” on paper. This pattern represents a blessing for fertility and fortune in China, with a baby wearing a lotus and lifting lotuses with hands and head.
