1Identification of medicinal plants and On-line Medicinal Botanical Garden: The study of medicinal plants is an important basis for identifying and understanding Chinese medicinals. It can quickly establish an intuitive understanding of Chinese medicinals for beginners of Chinese medicine. This course introduces the medicinal plants in different seasons in the medicinal botanical garden on the spot. The content of the introduction mainly includes the identification characteristics, growth habits, and efficacy applications of plants. At the same time, it combines the interesting knowledge points of each plant to deepen students’ understanding of specific plants and the understanding of traditional Chinese medicine culture. For example, when identifying Artemisia annua ( Huang Hua Hao in Chinese), we mentioned Pro. Tu Youyou carried out the arduous process of extracting artemisinin from it and finally won the Nobel Prize. When identifying Safflower (Hong Hua in Chinese), it was mentioned that the ancients widely used safflower as a dyestuff to dye fabrics and sold products to countries around the world through the Silk Road. When identifying Prunella Vulgaris (Xia Ku Cao in Chinese), we mentioned the origin of the Chinese name Xia Ku Cao and the custom of making herbal tea with Prunella vulgaris in southern China. When identifying Dendrobium officinale (Tie Pi Shi Hu in Chinese), we mentioned Dendrobium officinale is one of the nine immortal grasses of Taoism in China. It has been a valuable Chinese medicinal herb used by the people for health care since ancient time. Nowadays, with the development of cultivation techniques, Dendrobium officinale has been widely used by ordinary people. This course is practical, interesting, cultural and vivid for students to study.
