The Summer Palace, an imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty, formerly known as Qingyi Garden, is located in the western suburbs of Beijing, 15 kilometers from the city. It covers an area of about 290 hectares (2.9 square kilometers) and is adjacent to the Yuan Ming Yuan. The Summer Palace is a large landscape garden, dominated by the Kunming Lake and the Longevity Hill. It bases its design on the West Lake in Hangzhou and the Gardens on the Yangtze Delta. It is also the most complete preservation of a royal palace, known as the "Royal Garden Museum."
