1This course is set for overseas students who are interested in Chinese culture, which mainly introduces the folk culture of Northeast China including festivals customs, diets, costumes, life and death, marriages, building, religions and folk belief, and taboos etc. It aims to enhance the overseas students’ understanding of Northeast China’s local folk arts and develop their interest in the Northeast China, China and Chinese traditional culture. Thus, they will understand the feature of folk art in the Northeast China and its importance in Chinese culture. The lectures will be given in English. Students are expected to have an overview of folk customs of Northeast China (the ten interesting customs in Northeast China) through PPT (slides in multimedia), audio, and video materials. Focuses will be on the daily life in Northeast China——cotton-padded jacket, pickled Chinese cabbage, Kang (heated bed), and Pali. The course aims to enable foreign students to learn typical folk culture from general to specific deepen students’ understanding of Northeast folk culture, and arouse their interest in Chinese culture.
