Folk customs derive from the daily life of ordinary families and record the characteristics of the times. During the period of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, Beijing transformed from an imperial capital to a modern city. The old Beijing folk-customs was formed along with the conflict and fusion between traditional and modern culture. This exhibition shows Beijing’s old stories of more than 100 years through the customs of the ordinary people, such as wedding ceremony, birth celebration, the birthday celebrations of elderly persons and spring festival customs.
