1Chinese folk handicrafts are folk art of popular life and are both economic and cultural vehicles. Folk handicraft refers to a kind of arts and crafts produced by folk working people mainly by hand to meet the needs of life and aesthetic requirements, taking materials from local areas. There is a wide variety of handicrafts, such as Song brocade, bamboo weaving, straw weaving, hand embroidery, blue calico, batik, hand-made wood carving, clay sculpture, paper cutting, folk toys, etc. The lantern, the subject of this course, is a folk handicraft that combines the art of painting, paper cutting, paper tying and stitching. Chinese lanterns, also collectively known as Deng Cai, are an ancient Han traditional handicraft. It originated in the Western Han Dynasty more than 2,000 years ago. Every year, around the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar, people hang red lantern that symbolize reunion to create a festive atmosphere.. This course focuses on learning about lanterns and the process of making, so as to understand the content and spirit of China’s excellent traditional culture and to feel the characteristics and charm of Chinese traditional culture.
