Chinese pottery, a bright pearl in Chinese traditional culture, includes pottery and porcelain. Chinese people invented pottery in about 8,000 B.C., which has become a byword for Chinese culture. On December 18, 2020, one teacher from International Exchange College of Inner Mongolia Normal University went to the pottery studio of the university with four international students. Guided by Mr. Zhang Jinlong, a pottery teacher from the Academy of Arts and Crafts, the students visited the pottery studio, understood the machines of making pottery, the knowledge of pottery materials and the development of pottery, and experienced pottery making. International students knew the machines of making pottery through the visit, understood the development history of Chinese pottery through lectures, understood the steps of making pottery and pottery materials, and enjoyed the fun of making pottery. They felt the relationship between pottery and people’s life; at the same time, they realized the quintessence Chinese culture, the ancient wisdom of Chinese people and the significance of the Silk Road. International students learned the beauty of Chinese traditional culture profoundly through the experience of pottery making, which opens a gate for them to go on exploring Chinese culture.
