Characters are a symbol to record language and Chinese is the only language that develops from ancient times. It has a long history of thousands of years from the inscriptions on bones to simplified characters. There are more than 80,000 characters in Chinese with only three or four thousand in common use. How were Chinese characters created? Since the Han Dynasty, there was Liu Shu, traditional Chinese character structure theories, including pictographs, ideogram, associative compounds and phonogram, which are word formation theories; and mutually explanatory and phonetic characters, which are phraseology theories. The lecture mainly introduces the amazing word formation in Chinese, so that international students would sort out the relationship between the form, sound and meaning of Chinese characters. Thus, their learning interest would be motivated, which is convenient for them to memorize and understand Chinese characters.
