Shadow play is one of the earliest Chinese operas. In 2011, it was added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This course will give an introduction to the historical origin, making, performing forms, art genres and representative works of shadow play. Besides, this course will also analyze and appreciate some works of shadow play. In addition, based on folk art, this course will help to arouse students' interest in Chinese folk culture and art and deepen their passion for traditional Chinese culture.
